For the people who ask me a lot about how to capture satellite signals, here is how a home satellite dish works to pick up TV channels. Here is a simplified guide explaining the components of a satellite dish and its range of motion in detail:
First: Basic Satellite Dish Components
Satellite Dish Antenna: The curved metal dish that collects wireless signals coming from space and concentrates them into a single point.
LNB (Low-Noise Block downconverter): The electronic piece mounted in front of the dish. Its job is to capture the concentrated signals, amplify them, and convert them to lower frequencies to be sent through the cable.
12 GHz Downlink: Represents the high-frequency signal coming from satellites in space toward the dish.
Intermediate Frequency (IF) from 950 MHz to 2150 MHz: The signal after the LNB lowers its frequency, making it ready to travel through the wire to the receiver inside the home.
Second: Dish Tilt Range of Motion (Elevation Angle)
To adjust the signal correctly, the elevation angle of the dish must be precisely controlled. The calculations indicate:
0-degree angle: When the dish is aimed completely horizontally toward the horizon.
Elevation angles (30°, 60°, 90°): The tilt of the dish is adjusted upward based on the location of the target satellite relative to your geographical location, up to 90 degrees, which is completely vertical toward the sky.
